Free creative walking workshop led by Associate Artist Amelia Daiz, inspired by the work of Sarah Cunningham.
Nottingham Contemporary is hosting Drawing Light, a walkshop led by Associate Artist Amelia Daiz on Saturday 21 November. It's a creative walk and workshop in one, inspired by the work of Sarah Cunningham, and it runs from 3pm to 5pm. The whole thing is free.
The walkshop is part of Sarah Cunningham: Midnight Sun, the first institutional solo exhibition and largest presentation of works to date by the late British artist Sarah Cunningham (1993-2024). It's a homecoming of sorts, as she was born and raised in Nottingham. Her work sought the essential and the alive through imaginary wildernesses and fluid forestscapes, drawing on science fiction literature, art history, ecology and personal references. She worked in a nocturnal practice that estranged her limbs and thoughts from systematic, painterly movements, resulting in works that dwell in darkness only to culminate in the arrival of the dawn chorus. The exhibition is curated by Katie Simpson and Niall Ó Faircheallaigh, with support from Lisson.
Amelia Daiz, an Associate Artist at Nottingham Contemporary, is a freelance socially engaged artist and facilitator across the East Midlands who runs Meanderers, a small creative walking organisation based here in Nottingham. She'll be leading the session, and the focus is on creating art inspired by changing light. If you're into the idea of a slow walk that turns into making something, this is exactly that.
