Free hands-on ceramics workshop led by storyteller and tile maker Ruby Daley, exploring personal and collective histories through clay.
Ruby Daley is running a ceramics workshop at Nottingham Contemporary on Saturday 21 November, from 1pm to 4pm. It's a hands-on making session, so you'll be working with clay rather than just watching. The workshop is part of the gallery's exhibition Julia Isídrez: Mud is everything, and the session runs on two separate dates covering the same material: 21 November and 13 December, both 1pm to 4pm, so you only need to pick one.
Daley comes to the city from Glasgow, where she works as a storyteller, traditional tile maker and community gatherer. Her practice is built on applied storytelling and folk research, with a particular focus on stories of the land, archetypal emergence and ritual practice. She's fascinated by the eternality of clay and the archaeological remains that preserve our myth-making and social histories. She's a 2025 graduate of the King's Foundation Building Arts Programme and an alumnus of the Emerging Voices in Storytelling placement with the Village Storytelling Centre.

In the session, she invites you to explore your own personal histories and your collective dreams of a life lived closer to clay through ceramics. It's a making workshop, so you'll be getting your hands dirty and working with the material yourself. The whole thing runs from 1pm to 4pm at Nottingham Contemporary, NG1 2GB. It's free to attend, with the option to donate if you want to.
