Concert by Mystery Ensemble of the music of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, staged as a live theatrical experience inside St Mary's Church.
Mystery Ensemble are playing St Mary's Church on Friday 30 October, with the whole night built around the music of Tim Burton and his lifelong collaborator Danny Elfman. Elfman is one of the most distinctive film composers of our time, and the concert celebrates the work they've done together across Burton's films.
Mystery Ensemble was founded in 2021 by Almin Alexander and is made up of professional musicians who perform in non-standard venues around the world. Their sets draw from film and TV soundtracks, contemporary classical, and the classics, so this fits right into what they do. The show is staged as a live theatrical experience inside St Mary's, which is a Grade I listed building and the largest medieval building in Nottingham. The ensemble describes the music's magic as being built on the connection between the musicians and the surrounding architecture, and the arrangements blend the macabre with the magical, with soaring voices and bold instrumental colours.
