Friday night pop club night at The Bodega with resident DJ The Reverend Car Bootleg playing two floors of pop music across the eras.
The Pop Confessional returns to The Bodega on Friday 23 October, the first of a run that keeps going every Friday night until 18 December. It's one of the venue's regular Friday club nights, with resident DJ The Reverend Car Bootleg taking charge of two floors of wall-to-wall pop music from all eras. The night is billed as a celebration of pop music as a religion rather than a phase, and it leans into that theme with a free 'Vodka Confessional Booth' upstairs where you can confess your sins and be cleansed by the power of huge pop anthems. There's also a photographer on hand, with candids posted to the Pop Con gallery on Facebook.
Car Bootleg's set runs through the pop canon, with Madonna, Dua Lipa, Prince, Charli xcx, Gwen Stefani, Dolly Parton, Bruno Mars, Cher and The Human League all in the mix. It's a broad reach, pulling from the current charts and the older records that still work on a dancefloor, and the two floors mean there's plenty of room to move between them throughout the night.
One date in the run stands apart: Friday 30 October is the 'Seven Deadly Sins' Halloween special, which asks for costumes and puts a vodka-dispensing priest at the altar on the upstairs floor. If you're planning to go, that's the one to dress up for.

The Bodega itself, known as the 'Mecca of the Midlands', has been a fixture of the region's music scene for more than two and a half decades, picking up Spirit of the Scene at the Music Week Awards 2025 and Grassroots Champion at the Live Awards 2025. The Pop Confessional runs from 23:00 to 03:00, entry is £6, and it's on every Friday from 23 October to 18 December.
