Sounds Familiar Music Quiz

Sounds Familiar is coming to The Saltbox on Saturday 7 November, and it's not your usual pub quiz. They describe it as a party disguised as a quiz, and that's a fair way to put it. There's no boring trivia here — no dates of birth or obscure facts to dig out. Instead, it's built around the music itself: chart classics, indie anthems, power ballads, mash-ups and current bangers. The whole thing runs as an interactive afternoon with around 100 tracks spanning the 1960s to the present day, so there's something for pretty much everyone in the room.

It's a team competition, so you'll want to gather a few people and get your act together before you arrive. The music is the main event, but there are live music elements mixed in, and the whole thing is run by knowledgeable hosts with quality sound production. It's less a test of what you know and more about being in the room and joining in. Reviewers have called it 'one of the best nights out there', 'a real fun event where everyone can join in' and 'absolutely cracking'.

Sounds Familiar has a bit of a track record behind it, too. They claim to be the only music quiz to have sold out The Camden Roundhouse, to have supported the boy band 5ive and to have played Glastonbury more times than David Bowie. The Nottingham edition has a new home at The Saltbox, and the tour carries on with Christmas Party dates in Brighton and Nottingham and a Hogmanay Special in Glasgow.

Doors open at 14:00 and the quiz runs from 15:00 to 18:00, so it's a proper afternoon session rather than a late one. Tickets are £13.20 including fees — that's £12.00 face value and a £1.20 booking fee. You'll find The Saltbox at Bolero Square, Nottingham NG1 1LY.
