Free monthly evening of queer creativity with paper crafts, painting, sculpting and textile work, with materials provided.
Queer Crafts is back at Nottingham Contemporary on Monday 26 October, from 6pm to 7.45pm. It's a relaxed, informal evening of creativity and community run by the Notts LGBT+ Network alongside Zesty's Collective, a group of Nottingham-based queer people who programme alternative events with queerness at their heart, away from noise, substances and the need to spend money or go out at night.
The sessions are open to anyone with an LGBTQIA+ or questioning identity aged 18 and over, and they're designed to suit everyone from people with no artistic talent to budding artists and casual crafters. The activities switch each month between paper crafts, painting, sculpting and textile work like knitting, crochet and embroidery, so you'll be working with something different every time. All materials are provided, and there's guidance on hand for anyone new to a particular material or process, so you don't need to bring anything with you or have any prior experience.
Behind the scenes, the group is funded by the Notts LGBT+ Network with support from the National Lottery. The Network itself has been supporting the county's LGBT+ community since 1975, and Queer Crafts is one of their regular offerings. It runs on the last Monday of each month, except when that Monday falls on a bank holiday, so if you miss this one, there'll be another session a few weeks later.
