Live set by dance DJ Pete Tong, former host of Radio 1's Essential Selection, at Broad Marsh Car Park.
Pete Tong is playing Broad Marsh Car Park on Thursday 10 December, with the set starting at 17:00. He's billed as Britain's best-loved dance DJ, a name that'll ring a bell even if you've never stepped foot in a club.
For eight years he fronted Radio 1's Essential Selection, the show that brought dance music into the mainstream and built him a following that stretches from the underground to the wide open. He was born in Dartford and educated in Rochester, and it was the underground soul scene of the late seventies that first got him hooked in his teens. He's spent the decades since shaping the sound of dance music on a global scale, so he's one of the few people who's actually been in the room while the scene was being built.
It's a big name for a car park, but that's the whole point — a dance DJ in a space you'd usually only visit to park up and head into town. He'll be performing live, and given his background, it's as much about the history of the sound as it is about the set itself. If you've spent any time listening to dance music over the last few decades, you've likely come across his work without even realising it.
