Our Yard: CHANNEL ONE vs SINAI Sound System

Our Yard are back at The Brickworks on Saturday 24 October, and this time the night is built around sound system culture. They've paired the legendary CHANNEL ONE with SINAI Sound System, two names that put the sound system itself at the centre of the room rather than just as a way to play records. It's a reggae and dub night, so the whole thing is rooted in those traditions.

If you're not familiar with the format, a sound system night is different from a standard DJ set. It's about the physical experience as much as the music — the heavy bass and the atmospheric selections are the order of the night, and the sound is meant to be felt as much as heard. Our Yard describes the evening as an immersive experience, and they've aimed it as much at skilled operators as at sound enthusiasts, so it's a night for people who appreciate the technical side of the craft as well as the music itself.

Our Yard has a track record of heavyweight sessions here, having previously hosted names like Mad Professor and Aba-Shanti, so they know how to handle a night like this. The Brickworks is at Unit 3, Davisella House, Newark Street, Nottingham, NG2 4PP. It runs from 19:00 to 23:00, and tickets are £12 to £13.50.
