Opera North's touring production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, directed by Alessandro Talevi and sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Opera North bring Mozart's Don Giovanni to the Theatre Royal in Nottingham on Wednesday 17 March and Friday 19 March, both nights starting at 7:00pm. It's sung in Italian with English subtitles, so you'll follow the story even if you don't speak the language.
Don Giovanni is one of the most performed operas in the world, and for good reason. It's a dark comedy about the ultimate notorious womaniser, whose charm finally runs out when he meets his comeuppance. Director Alessandro Talevi re-imagines it in an eclectic production that plays out across time and space, and he describes it as dramatic, unsettling and laugh-out-loud funny. It's not a traditional staging, so it should hold up even if you've seen the story before.
The production has picked up some strong reviews along the way. The Guardian gave it four stars and called it 'the way to do it', while Bachtrack awarded it five stars, describing it as 'a huge success... enthralling throughout'.
