Opera North tours Nottingham with full-scale productions of Eugene Onegin, Rigoletto, Don Giovanni, The Big Opera Mystery, Dead Man Walking and Tristan und Isolde.
Opera North are returning to the Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall for their 2026-27 season, which runs from 9 October 2026 to 15 May 2027. They tour to Nottingham three times a year, and this season brings a mix of full-scale productions, concert stagings, community pop-up operas, lunchtime concerts and family shows for children and adults. General Director Laura Canning describes the season as a journey across the world.
The programme opens in November with Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin on 18 and 21 November, followed by Verdi's Rigoletto on 19 and 20 November. Femi Elufowoju Jr reimagines Verdi's jester as a marginalised Black man, a production that earned rave reviews and star ratings when it first staged in 2022. March brings Mozart's Don Giovanni on 17 and 19 March, The Big Opera Mystery on 18 March at 1:15pm, and Dead Man Walking on 20 March. The latter is a contemporary opera by Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally that follows convicted killer Joseph De Rocher, taken across the north of England by Annilese Miskimmon's touring production. The season closes here with Wagner's Tristan und Isolde on 13 May at 5:00pm.
