Day of talks by local historians and archaeologists on Nottingham's caves, ancient buildings and traditional puddings, with free book and display stands for the public.
The Nottinghamshire Local History Association is back at Ravenshead Village Hall on Saturday 26 October, their autumn forum returning to the same venue as before. It's a full day of talks that brings together local historians, archaeologists and specialists from across the county, and this time the line-up runs from the city's hidden caves to the old desserts of the region.
Dave Mooney opens the day with 'Nottingham's Drury Hill caves'. He's a musician, a tour guide and President of the Nottingham Historical and Archaeological Society, and has written several books on the city's sandstone caves, so he's talking about ground he knows inside out. After him, Dr James Wright presents The Buildings Archaeologist, which he bills as the first book in over 25 years to offer clues to the secrets of Britain's ancient buildings. Then it's over to local food historian Dr Mark Dawson, who earned his doctorate from Nottingham University in 2007 and has spent two decades researching food history; he'll be surveying traditional Nottinghamshire puddings. David Barton, the current NLHA Secretary and a specialist in 17th-century Nottinghamshire, closes the day.
Beyond the talks, the Association provides free book and display stands for members of the public, though stand holders have to buy a forum ticket to take one. It's a good chance to see what other local history and archaeology groups are working on while you're there.

The forum runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with registration and refreshments from 9.30am, so there's plenty of time to get sorted before the first talk kicks off. Tickets are £9-10 via Eventbrite, and the venue is Ravenshead Village Hall, 11 Vernon Crescent, Ravenshead, NG15 9BP.
