Free drop-in workshop for children aged 7 and over to make a clay sphinx inspired by the University of Nottingham Museum's Roman collection.
Museum Explorers is back at Lakeside Arts on Saturday 24 October, part of the University of Nottingham Museum's programme of workshops for children and families. This one is called Riddles in Clay, and it's a drop-in session, so you can turn up whenever suits you between 12:00 and 15:30.
The session is all about making your own mythical clay sphinx, inspired by a statue in the museum's Roman collection. While you're shaping yours, you'll find out how ancient Egyptian sphinxes influenced art and ritual across the Roman world, so there's a bit of history to go alongside the making. It's aimed at ages seven and over, which makes it a good one to do with kids over the half-term break.

Because it's a drop-in, you don't have to be there right at the start โ you can wander in whenever you've got a gap in the day and stay for as long as you like. It's held in the Learning Studio at Lakeside Arts, and it's free to take part. If you're around Nottingham that Saturday, it's an easy one to fit in.
