Hands-on cookery masterclass to make macaroons at the Pippley Walled Garden cookery school in Beeston.
Pippley Walled Garden is hosting a Making Macaroons Masterclass on Saturday 30 January 2027, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. It's a full seven-hour day, so you'll want to clear your schedule for it. The garden is in Beeston, on Wollaton Road (NG9 3DA), just a short trip from the city centre.
The class is run by chefs Alex and Rob, who run the cookery school inside the Victorian walled garden. Macaroons are the focus here, but it's not the only thing they do — they also run hands-on sessions in fresh pasta and sauces. Each of their classes is rounded off with lunch, refreshments and a tour of the garden led by the head gardener, so you get a bit of the grounds as well as the cooking. The day is suitable for ages 16 and over, though children aged 12 to 15 are welcome if they're accompanied by an adult. The site is wheelchair friendly and welcomes guide dogs.
They provide the apron, all the cooking utensils and ingredients, and a recipe sheet to take home, plus a Pippley tote bag. You'll leave with your full macaroon collection, so you'll need a tin or some Tupperware to carry them away in. The only other things to bring are a pen, some paper and clothes you don't mind getting mucky. Just a heads-up on allergens: the day involves nuts, dairy and soya.
