All-abilities lino printing day led by artist Marcus Gilmore, with sketching, carving and printing, plus lunch and refreshments.
Marcus Gilmore is leading a lino print workshop at Attenborough Nature Reserve on Sunday 6 December, from 10am to 4pm. Gilmore is a graphic designer, illustrator and print maker known for striking, colourful designs, and he'll be running the day for small groups. The whole point is to get people excited about lino printing, with the chance to make something that actually means something to you: a favourite animal, a landscape, or even the family pet.
The day follows the whole process from start to finish. You'll begin by sketching out your designs, then outlining and carving them into the lino, before printing with a variety of colours and types of paper. You don't need any previous experience, and all the kit is provided on the day — lino plates, carving tools, and ink included. It's a full day's work, so you'll leave with a finished print rather than just a half-done block.
Lunch and refreshments are served in the community room, made fresh on the premises with locally sourced ingredients. The cakes and sweet treats come from two independent local businesses, Beeston Brownies and Homemade Café. If you have dietary needs, just give them 48 hours' notice and they'll be catered for. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and assistance dogs are welcome.
