Award-winning stand-up Juliette Burton sheds her 'good girl' persona to become a baddie and explore power, rage and gender expectations through fictional villains.
Juliette Burton brings her show Villain Era to The Lord Roberts on Friday 6 November, part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival 2026. It's an hour of stand-up that Burton describes as silly, sexy and incredibly nerdy, and the whole thing centres on her shedding her long-billed 'good girl' persona to become a straight-up baddie.
She builds the set around the villains of nerd culture—comic book characters, book series sirens and mythological goddesses—and uses them to look at power, rage, sexuality, queerness and the shackles of gender expectations. It's a quest for grown-up geeks and justice-hungry joy seekers, and the title Villain Era does a fair bit of the heavy lifting there: the 'good girl' image goes, and the baddie takes over.
Burton's a well-regarded name on the circuit. Starburst Magazine called her 'one of the most exciting stand-ups on the circuit', The Wee Review dubbed her the 'queen of the nerds' and Fringe Review called her a 'Fringe legend'. She won the Neurodiversity Bursary at Brighton Fringe 2026 and was shortlisted for Best New Show at Brighton Fringe 2025, as well as for The Disability Power 100 in 2024. The show is presented by NCF Comedy as part of the festival, and it's for ages 18 and over.
