Workshop led by local artist Millie Quick in which participants use play, illustration and discussion to design a planet's past, present and future.
Millie Quick is leading a worldbuilding workshop at Nottingham Contemporary on Sunday 25 October, from 2pm to 4pm. It's part of Sarah Cunningham's exhibition, and it's exactly what the title suggests: you spend the afternoon building a planet from scratch.
Quick describes it as a casual, flexible game of prompts and choices. You'll shape a planet's past, map its present and speculate on its future, drawing on Cunningham's dreamy landscapes and the kind of imagination you'd find in science-fiction. The whole thing is built around play, illustration and discussion, and it looks at how geology, biology, society and technology all shape one another. Everyone adds to a huge shared map as the session goes on, and you take home a complimentary copy at the end.
It's not just for artists, either. Storytellers, writers and GameMasters are all welcome, and all the drawing and writing materials are provided on the day. The workshop is for ages 14 and over, so it's open to teens as well as adults. If you're into worldbuilding, tabletop gaming, or just fancy spending a Sunday afternoon imagining a world that doesn't exist, this is right up your street.
