Drag queen Ginger Johnson brings her high-camp stand-up and original songs to Nottingham Playhouse in her show 'Show Pony'.
Ginger Johnson is playing Nottingham Playhouse on Saturday 21 November, with her new show Show Pony taking the stage at 7.30pm. It's her first Nottingham date since her 2024 tour, Ginger Johnson Blows Off!, and this one is built around the same high camp and low morals she's known for.
If you've come across her before, you'll know the two sides of her career: she's one of the UK's most celebrated drag queens, as much at home in the MasterChef kitchen as on the Drag Race runway. Show Pony leans into the more chaotic side of that, billed as a psychedelic night at the theatre packed with whip-smart comedy and original songs. She describes the music as sounding like it's "astral projecting straight into your ears from the radio of a 1970s VW camper — think Janis Joplin... if she was a geordie".
The reviews have been pretty consistent on the tone: The Timeout called it "brilliant, bizarre and completely unmissable", Theatre Weekly called it "hilarious", and The Reviews Hub went with "comedy gold". Between the original songs and the comedy, it's a full evening of her trademark ridiculousness rather than a short set.
