Ghost hunt by Haunting Nights at the National Justice Museum, the former Shire Hall and County Gaol in Nottingham, considered one of the most haunted buildings in England.
Haunting Nights are running a ghost hunt at the National Justice Museum on Friday 27 November, and if you've never spent any time there, it's worth knowing what you're walking into. The museum sits on the site of Nottingham's old Shire Hall and County Gaol, a building with a properly grim history: it's served as the city's local court since 1375 and as a prison, with the first written record dating back to 1449. In 1724, the courtroom floor collapsed and several people fell into the cellar, and the Hall was rebuilt in 1772. Public executions were held in front of its central doorway for decades, the last of them in 1864. It later worked as a police station from 1905 to 1985, and the court finally closed in 1986.
Because of that, it's now considered one of the most haunted buildings in England, with plenty of reports of the paranormal and alleged poltergeist activity captured on film. That's the backdrop for the night: you'll be inside those same walls, hunting for whatever might still be hanging around. Teams are limited to a maximum of eight people, and each one needs at least one team leader, so it's a good one to gather a small group for.
