Free training programme that tackles misogyny and sexism by reframing men's role as allies and addressing the root causes of harassment and violence.
Stand By Her is running a free training session on tackling misogyny and sexism at the NBV Enterprise Centre on Tuesday 17 November, starting at 10:00 am. It's run by Communities Inc, with registration through Eventbrite.
The programme is built on a specific shift: instead of asking women to deal with harassment, it reframes men's role as allies and moves the responsibility to them to prevent and challenge misogyny. It started as men-only training, but it's now open to anyone. The sessions are tailored to the audience and get into the root causes of harassment and violence, using real-life case studies rather than just talking in abstracts.
Part of the context is the Workers' Protection Act, which since 26 October 2024 has placed a legal duty on UK employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. That's a concrete change in the law that sits behind a lot of this. Beyond the workplace, the programme also works with schools, colleges, sports teams and youth groups to tackle misogynistic ideologies — including the manosphere and incel culture — in safe, non-judgemental spaces that align with safeguarding, PSHE and government priorities.
