Free hands-on first-aid training on how to use bleed control kits and tourniquets, delivered by the Major Trauma Unit at Queens Medical Centre.
Free Bleed Kit Training is running at the Dryden Enterprise Centre on Wednesday 21 October, starting at 09:30. It's a hands-on session delivered by the Major Trauma Unit at Queens Medical Centre, and it's free to attend.
The training focuses on first-aid responses to uncontrolled bleeding, which the organisers describe as one of the leading causes of preventable death. It's a practical morning rather than a lecture, so you'll be getting stuck in. You'll learn how to use tourniquets, wound-packing techniques, and how to apply pressure to stop bleeding. There's also a look at how to make use of the items in a bleed control kit, so you'll know exactly what's inside and how to use it when it counts.
There are two things that make this more than just a one-off class. First, a bleed kit is distributed to each participating city centre venue, so the equipment stays in the community. Second, everyone who takes part gets a certificate, which is a nice bit of proof that you've put the time in. If you've ever wondered what to do in a real emergency and want to be able to act rather than just stand there, this is a straightforward way to get that confidence.
