Stand-up show 'Thrum' by Daniel Kitson, with music throughout, at Nottingham Playhouse.
Daniel Kitson brings his new show Thrum to Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday 25 October, with the curtain going up at 19:30. It's billed as a new comedy show, and it's a long one — 110 minutes in total, so you'll want to settle in for the full evening. It's suitable for ages 16 and over.
As for what to expect, Kitson describes Thrum as being performed with music more or less throughout, alongside at least two funny voices and upwards of three jokes. The text is a rapid-fire cascade of images and phrases — figs, worms, an old dog rejecting a blanket, a daffodil in December, a mark on a jumper, a tree in storage on a farm in Kent, a toilet in Hong Kong and a coffee shop in Melbourne — all punctuated by the word 'And'. It's a specific kind of stand-up, as much about the music and the voices as the jokes themselves.
Kitson is a 49-year-old English actor and comedian, perhaps best known as Spencer in the sitcom Phoenix Nights. He's picked up a fair few awards over the years: the 2004 Chortle Awards People's Choice and Comedians' Comedian, the 2007 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award for Most Outstanding Show, and the 2002 Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Comedy Show. If you've seen him before, you'll know he's as comfortable with a script as he is on his feet.
