Monthly, over-18s only, facilitated circle at the library to share feelings about the climate and ecological crises, with refreshments.
Sherwood Library is hosting a Climate Cafe on Wednesday 21 October, from 16:30 to 17:45. It's a monthly gathering, so if this one doesn't fit your schedule, there'll be another one at the library next month.
If you've never come across the idea, a Climate Cafe is a warm, welcoming, and confidential space where anyone can meet to share their feelings, thoughts, and emotions about the climate and ecological crises. It's run as an 'action-free zone', which is the key thing to get your head around: the focus is entirely on peer support and connection, rather than on political debate, climate science arguments, or planning environmental action. It's a place to talk about how things are affecting you, not a place to solve the problem or argue the facts.
In practice, the gathering runs as a safely facilitated small-group circle. You'll have a cup of tea or coffee in front of you, and the whole thing is built around attentive listening. There's no pressure to speak unless you want to, and any response is welcome—whether that's anxiety, anger, grief, hope, or just feeling numb. It's open to over-18s, so it's a space for adults to be honest about where they're at without having to perform or put on a brave face.
