Guided autumn nature identification walk to identify native trees, leaves, seeds, nuts and berries at Attenborough Nature Reserve.
Attenborough Nature Reserve is hosting an autumn identification walk on Sunday 25 October, led by guide Poppy of Wild and Wonder Notts. It's a slow-paced stroll through the reserve's autumn landscape, with the aim of spotting and naming the native trees and the seeds, nuts and berries they produce this time of year.
Poppy describes it as an immersive, informative and mindful experience, and it goes beyond just naming what's in front of you. Along the way, you'll hear about the history, uses and folklore of the different species, so you'll come away knowing a bit more about why these trees matter and how they've been used over time. The route covers up to two miles, and it's a mix of uneven grass and earth alongside smoother tarmac, so it's worth keeping that in mind when you're thinking about footwear.
The walk is part of the reserve's wider October Wild Weekend, which runs across Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, and it's one of the organised events put on by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. If you're already planning to be out there for the weekend, this fits right in.
