Exhibition of 20 years of Hockley Hustle posters, wristbands, photos and stories at the Broadway Cinema gallery space.
Hockley Hustle is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an exhibition at Broadway Cinema, running from Tuesday 20 October. It's a look back at two decades of the festival, with posters, wristbands, photos and stories from the archive on display in the gallery space at the back of Broadway, on Heathcote Street. The exhibition opens daily from 11am to 4pm, and there's a launch party on the opening night, Tuesday 20 October, from 6pm.
If you've never come across it, Hockley Hustle is Nottingham's grassroots music and arts charity festival. It started back in 2009 and has grown into the city's biggest independent celebration, drawing thousands of people to the streets of Hockley and Sneinton every October. It's built around championing grassroots artists, local promoters and independent venues, and the whole thing is run as a charity. Over the years it's raised more than £250,000 for 27 local charities, from mental health organisations and refugee support groups to hospices and youth services. This milestone edition has a target of £20,000 for six local charities.
Much of the festival's history is tied to the UFO Orchestra, Ian Burton's 70-piece ensemble, and a long list of Nottingham vocalists and acts. This year also marks the launch of its first Queer Hustle programme and the Young Hustlers family festival. The 20th anniversary is being marked with both a music film programme and this exhibition at Broadway.
