Third banner-making workshop led by Dr Jane Hattrick to stitch the lives of Tilted Women from Norfolk's history and assemble the banner.
Dr Jane Hattrick is back at Norwich Arts Centre on Thursday 22 October for the third part of the Tilted Women Textile Banner workshops. It's a midday session, running from 12pm to 2pm, and it's the third in a series of banner-making workshops that have been building towards a single, collective piece.
The project is about stitching the lives of 'Tilted Women' from Norfolk's history. If you've been along to the first two, you'll be returning to the woman you've chosen to work on. If you're joining in for the first time, you'll be picking up your own figure from the county's past and starting your part of the story from here. The session is open to people who missed the first and second workshops, and you don't need any prior stitching experience to get involved.
On the table, you'll be continuing to piece together a simple log cabin quilt block by hand, and you'll start assembling your block into the larger banner. Dr Hattrick brings a light box and graph paper to help you transfer text onto linen, and she'll be teaching a few basic stitches, like running stitch and back stitch, to get you through it. It's as much about the making as it is about the women being remembered.
