Jazz night at the Norwich Arts Centre with Jasmine Myra playing her album 'Where Light Settles', opening with jazz guitarist Jamie Leeming.
Jasmine Myra plays Norwich Arts Centre on Tuesday 27 October, presented by Round Midnight. She'll be performing her third album, Where Light Settles, which is her first self-produced record. It follows Horizons (2022) and Rising (2024), and she writes all the music herself. The album's title is also its subject, and the night is built around it.
Myra describes her writing as drawing on an affinity with film scores, and the names she drops give you a good sense of the territory: Dustin O'Halloran, Wes Anderson soundtracks and Hans Zimmer's Interstellar sit alongside Fabiano do Nascimento, Arooj Aftab and Alabaster DePlume. It's a mix that pulls from cinematic textures and global jazz, and since she's the one writing the music, the whole thing comes from her own hand.
Opening the night is jazz guitarist Jamie Leeming, who's been a key collaborator for Alfa Mist, Tom Misch and Jas Kayser. He first made his name on Alfa Mist's albums before stepping out solo with Flow (2020) and Resynthesis (2022). The evening is presented by Round Midnight, a Ukraine-based project working in a jazz-influenced idiom, with releases including Series 1 Shadowed Silhouette Collection (2022) and Serie 2 Midnight Smoke - The Darkest of (2021).
