Cowboyy, a math-pop and psychedelic rock band from the south of England, plays the Pony Up club night at the Norwich Arts Centre.
Cowboyy play the Norwich Arts Centre on Tuesday 24 November, as part of the venue's Pony Up club night. They're a band from the south of England, and their sound sits somewhere between math-pop and psychedelic rock — the kind of thing that works as well in a small room as it does on record.
If you're not familiar with Pony Up, it's the Arts Centre's club night dedicated to the best new noise, and it's been running since 2014. Over the years, it's built up a bit of a track record for booking bands before they really take off. The list of names that have come through since the start reads like a who's who of the UK's recent best new acts: Self Esteem, Marika Hackman, Yard Act, Snapped Ankles, Black Honey, Goat Girl, Squid, Porridge Radio, Black Midi, Los Bitchos, Dry Cleaning, Lambrini Girls, Cumgirl8, Jockstrap and Fat Dog have all played here. It's a night that looks for the new and the loud, and Cowboyy fit that bill.
As for the band themselves, they're coming up from the south of England to play. The math-pop side of things usually means odd time signatures and a bit of a twist to the melodies, while the psychedelic rock brings in the more expansive, trippy textures. It's a combination that tends to keep you on your toes, rather than something you can just switch off to. If you've been following the newer end of the UK scene, this is exactly the kind of thing Pony Up is built for.
