Nigel Planer brings his memoir 'Young Once' to life in a live show of storytelling, with books sold by Book Hive on the night.
Nigel Planer brings his memoir Young Once to the Norwich Arts Centre on Monday 23 November, presented by Edge Street Live and Spoke. Most of us know him as Neil the hippy from The Young Ones, and he was a founding figure of the 1980s alternative comedy scene, but this is a storytelling show rather than a stand-up set. He's taking the stories from his book and telling them live on stage.
Much of it comes from the wild early days at The Comedy Store and the chaos of The Comic Strip Presents, Filthy Rich & Catflap. He shares the kind of backstage tales that don't usually make it into the official histories: twenty-foot Γ©clair-related injuries, gatecrashing raves with Robin Williams, and auditioning for a stony-faced Robert De Niro. Woven through the comedy is a moving, often mischievous account of his long, on-off-on-again love story with his wife Roberta.
The show was postponed to this date due to illness, so this is the rescheduled run. If you're interested in the book, Book Hive will be selling copies on the night, so you can pick up a copy and hear the stories in person on the same evening.
