Live concert by Joan Wasser, known as Joan As Police Woman, at the Norwich Arts Centre, a standing show recommended for ages 14 and over.
Joan As Police Woman plays Norwich Arts Centre on Tuesday 23 February 2027. That's the stage name of Joan Wasser, a New York-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who's spent years building a body of work that doesn't sit easily in one box. She's released ten albums of original material, two cover albums and an anthology, and she's as much a collaborator as she is a solo artist.
That second part is where the scale of her career really shows. She's toured as a member of Iggy Pop's band and performed with Damon Albarn's Africa Express. Beyond those, she's worked with Tony Allen, Lou Reed, Anohni & The Johnsons, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale and David Byrne. It's a long list of names from very different corners of music, and it goes a way toward explaining why her own sound is so hard to pin down — she blends genres into something that belongs to her.
