Live concert by Jake Vaadeland & The Sturgeon River Boys, fusing country, rockabilly and bluegrass, at the Norwich Arts Centre.
Jake Vaadeland & The Sturgeon River Boys play Norwich Arts Centre on Tuesday 20 October, with doors opening at 7pm. The set is split into two: Vaadeland plays from 8:00 to 8:40, followed by a twenty-minute interval, then back on from 9:00 to 9:40.
Vaadeland is a 21-year-old musician from Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, and a 2025 JUNO Award winner. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he's the youngest artist to achieve 'Road Gold' Certification, having sold 25,000 tickets across Canada in twelve months. His sound pulls together traditional country, 50s rockabilly and bluegrass, and his album Retro Man ... More and More was called an 'instant classic' by NEXT Magazine. He's picked up nine Saskatchewan Country Music Awards and three Saskatchewan Music Awards along the way.
He's worked with some big names from the Canadian scene: he did a bluegrass version of 'Wake Me Up' with Tebey, toured with the Hunter Brothers and The Dead South, and performed 'Four Strong Winds' with Noeline Hofmann at the Edmonton Folk Festival finale. The live show is known for being high-energy and foot-stomping, so it's more of a night to get on your feet than sit still.
