Heaven 17, the synth-pop pioneers behind 'Penthouse and Pavement', play The Adrian Flux Waterfront on their 45th-anniversary tour.
Heaven 17 play The Adrian Flux Waterfront on Monday 19 October, with doors opening at 19:30 and a curfew of 23:00. It's Martyn Ware and Glenn Gregory on stage, and the set is built around Penthouse and Pavement, the album they released in September 1982. It went Gold the following year and reached number 14 on the UK Albums Chart; it's since been included in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
Heaven 17 emerged from the collapse of the original Human League, the brainchild of Ware with Gregory on vocals. On Penthouse and Pavement, they fused cutting-edge electronics with political lyrics and hard-hitting funk, and they're widely seen as a cornerstone of the British post-punk movement. This tour marks the album's 45th anniversary, so the early tracks take centre stage, though they're mixed in with later hits like 'Temptation' and '(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang'.
