Scottish singer-songwriter Gary Stewart and his seven-piece band recreate Paul Simon's 1986 album Graceland for its 40th anniversary.
Gary Stewart brings his tribute to Paul Simon's Graceland to Norwich Arts Centre on Thursday 12 November, with doors opening at 7pm and the show starting at 8pm. It's a full-album rendition, meaning the Scottish singer and his band work their way through the 1986 record from start to finish rather than picking out the well-known singles.
Stewart fronts a seven-piece ensemble that first came together in 2016 to play Kate Rusby's Underneath the Stars Festival. Since then they've toured venues and festivals across the UK, including a sell-out at York Barbican in December 2024. The show is built on layers of guitars and percussion, bouncy accordion, vocal harmonies and a fair few bass solos that bring the record's South African rhythms and harmonies to the stage. 2026 marks the album's 40th anniversary, and the York-based troubadour is commemorating it with this tribute. Reviewer Joe Rusby called it an ambitious feat to recreate not just the sound but the energy and soul of the original recording.
