Belfast musician Duke Special plays The Adrian Flux Waterfront Studio with support from Arborist on his 'Songs from the Deep Forest' 20th Anniversary Tour.
Duke Special plays The Adrian Flux Waterfront Studio on Friday 23 October, as part of the Song From The Deep Forest 20th Anniversary Tour. He's joined by Arborist on the bill.
Duke Special is the stage name of Peter Wilson, a Belfast musician whose work reaches across music, theatre, books, poetry, art and 78rpm records. He's a piano-based songwriter known for a theatrical live style, and he's put out 14 albums and EPs. Among them is the compilation Adventures in Gramophone (2005), which brought together the EPs Lucky Me and My Villain Heart, and eight studio albums, including Songs from the Deep Forest (2007) — the record this tour is built around.
His work doesn't stop at the record player. He wrote the music for Deborah Warner's 2009 National Theatre production of Mother Courage and Her Children, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York commissioned him to write original songs inspired by photographs for an exhibition by Stieglitz, Steichen and Strand. Since then, he's scored four shows with Andrew Doyle and is developing Breakfast on Pluto with Bob Kelly. Depending on the night, he plays solo, as a duo with his long-time percussionist Chip Bailey, or with a full band, string quartet or full orchestra.
