Talk by Greg Jenner on the history of celebrity, based on his book 'Dead Famous', followed by book sales and a signing.
Greg Jenner is coming to the Octagon Chapel on Sunday 25 October, for a talk based on his bestselling book Dead Famous: An Unexpected History of Celebrity. It's a look at where the idea of the celebrity actually comes from, and how it's changed over time, so if you've ever wondered why we're so obsessed with famous people, this is exactly where that conversation starts.
Jenner is a British public historian, author and broadcaster, and you've almost certainly come across his work without realising it. He's the host and creator of the BBC historical comedy podcast You're Dead To Me, which has gathered more than 150 million downloads, and he spent eleven years as a writer on the BBC TV comedy series Horrible Histories. He's also spent the last decade teaching at the University of York's Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past, where he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate and Fellowship in 2025.

The talk itself runs from 7pm to 8pm, and it's followed by book sales and a signing with the author, so you can get your copy of Dead Famous signed on the night. The chapel is at 21 Colegate, NR3 1BN, and tickets are £10.
