A panel discussion and big-screen showcase exploring the creative process behind celebrated UK music videos, hosted by David Knight of the Music Video Preservation Society.
The Art Behind The Song comes to Tyneside Cinema on Friday 16 October, part of the Mercury Prize Fringe. It's presented by the Music Video Preservation Society, and it's a double bill: a panel discussion and a big-screen showcase exploring the creative process behind some of the UK's most celebrated music videos.
The showcase runs through a wide range of artists. You'll see videos by Dave, Florence + The Machine, JADE, Knats, Kojey Radical, Olivia Dean, Paul McCartney, RAYE and Suede. The whole thing is hosted by the society's founder, David Knight, and features two special guests: director Lulu Vicedomini and director Chris Turner, who runs Favourite Colour: Black. The discussion and the screenings together run for around two and a half hours.
It's all part of the Mercury Prize returning to Newcastle for a second year, with the main Awards Night on Thursday 22 October at Utilita Arena Newcastle. The Fringe is the official build-up to that: a week-long celebration of music, creativity and community run by Generator, the North's leading music development organisation. There are more than 30 events across the city, including showcases, workshops, listening parties, screenings and talks.
