An all-vinyl journey through jazz, soul, disco, house, Latin and Afro sounds from Worldwide FM residents, part of the Mercury Prize Fringe.
Santa Leticia and Lovellious are taking over Ōdio Bar on Friday 16 October, part of the Mercury Prize Fringe. Both are residents of Worldwide FM, and they're coming together for an all-vinyl night that moves through jazz, soul, disco, broken beat, house, Latin, Brazilian, Afro and Caribbean sounds. It's a wide reach, and the two of them are selectors who know how to thread it together.
Because it's all on vinyl, you'll hear the records as they were meant to be played, and the set isn't just about the familiar. Alongside the jazz and soul, they'll be digging into deep cuts and unexpected discoveries, the kind of things that usually stay in a private collection rather than making it onto a standard playlist. If you're into the more global, dance-leaning side of things, the Latin, Afro and Caribbean sounds should be the real draw here.
The night is part of the Mercury Prize Fringe, supported by Newcastle City Council, and it's one of several gigs happening across the city as part of the takeover. That means it's Pay As You Feel: there's no fixed ticket price, and every penny you put in goes directly back to the local venue. It's a good way to support the city's music spaces while you're out.
