UK premiere of the flamenco production Al Compas Del Querer by the Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company, fusing guitar, singing and dance.
Daniel Martinez Flamenco Company are at Northern Stage on Sunday 7 February, bringing the UK premiere of Al Compas del Querer to Stage 1. It's the first time the new production will be performed on this side of the Channel, and it's built around Martinez's latest album.
If the name is new to you, the company has been working its way through the UK since 2023. They've put on three productions so far: the debut album Art of Believing, which picked up the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh International Festival; Andalucia, which gathered five-star reviews; and Art of Andalucia, which toured throughout 2025. Beyond the UK, they've played in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland, and have seen over 120,000 people in the last three years. This one is the next chapter in that run.
Al Compas del Querer is a full flamenco show, combining guitar, singing and dance. Martinez describes it as his most intimate production to date, and the structure reflects that: each composition is dedicated to a person or a chapter of his own story. It's a personal record brought to the stage, with the music and the dancing working together rather than one just backing the other.
