A chilling ghost story by Tim Foley, directed by Neil Bettles, presented by the award-winning company ThickSkin at Northern Stage.
It Walks Around The House At Night runs at Northern Stage from 28 to 31 October, a ghost story that arrives just in time for the end of the month. It's produced by ThickSkin, an award-winning company bringing the play to Newcastle after a sell-out UK tour.
The story follows an out-of-work actor who takes a job playing a ghost at an old countryside manor, only to find the role blurring with reality as something far more sinister emerges. It's billed as part ghost story and part psychological thriller, and the production leans into that with inventive staging, immersive sound and bold visual effects. Critics have called it an unforgettable spooky story, a spine-tingling triumph and a technically dazzling thrill ride.
There's a local connection here too. The play is written by Tim Foley, a North East native and former Bruntwood Prize winner. He's also written Electric Rosary at the Royal Exchange Theatre and is an award-winning writer of Doctor Who audio dramas. He's directed by Neil Bettles, with sound design by Pete Malkin and lighting and video design by Joshua Pharo. Northern Stage, the largest producing theatre in the North East, is programming it as part of a season rooted in supporting local talent.
