Live music gig with Panchiko plus guests at Newcastle University Students' Union.
Panchiko play Newcastle University Students' Union on Saturday 17 October, presented by f54. It's a sold-out show, so if you're planning on going, you'll need to sort your tickets well in advance. Doors open at 7:00 PM.
If you've come across the name but aren't sure where it fits, the story behind the band is half the draw. It started on 21 July 2016, when a 4chan /mu/ user posted a photo of a mysterious demo CD called D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, which had supposedly been released back in 2000 by four musicians: Owain, Andy, Shaun and John. The recordings were said to be plagued by disc rot — that chemical breakdown that eats away at a CD over time — and they began circulating online, sparking a global hunt. Fans scoured subreddits, Discord servers and even the Nottingham record store where the disc had allegedly surfaced.
The lead singer, Owain, was eventually contacted by the fandom and confirmed he was the real singer, proving the disc rot was genuine. It's a strange, internet-age origin story that turned a forgotten demo into a piece of music folklore, and it's that same band coming to Newcastle.
