A classical music concert featuring soprano Miriam Allan and fortepianist Erin Helyard, performing works by Haydn, Mozart and Schubert within the Newcastle Music Festival.
Miriam Allan and Erin Helyard are playing at the Harold Lobb Concert Hall on Saturday 15 August, as part of the Newcastle Music Festival 2026. It's a song recital for two: soprano Allan on vocals and Helyard on fortepiano, harpsichord, and conducting. The programme brings together songs by Franz Joseph Haydn, Josepha von Auernhammer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert.
There's a bit of a homecoming story to the pairing. Miriam Allan is a born-and-bred Novocastrian and a former member of the Christ Church Cathedral Choir; she was one of four singers chosen for St George's Chapel at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh. Erin Helyard is a fortepianist, harpsichordist, conductor and musical director, appearing courtesy of Pinchgut Opera. The two are billed as a rare pairing, appearing together for the first time outside a capital city.

The set list leans into the Classical era, with Haydn, Mozart and Schubert sitting alongside Josepha von Auernhammer, a composer and pianist of the period. The performance is presented by Photolook at the Harold Lobb Concert Hall, a 348-seat room and one of the Newcastle Music Festival's premier live music venues.
