Christ Church Camerata's concert 'All That Jazz', with the Round Midnight trio weaving jazz, pop and classical music, closing the 2026 subscription series and the Newcastle Music Festival.
Christ Church Camerata are closing their 2026 subscription series with All That Jazz at Harold Lobb Hall, Newcastle Conservatorium on Sunday 8 November. It's a double-header of a sort: the concert wraps up the Camerata's year and serves as the finale of the 2026 Newcastle Music Festival.
On stage is the Round Midnight trio, three of the city's best musicians: Heather Price on conductor, vocals and bass, Terence Koo on piano, and Ben Barnes on drums. They're billed as weaving together jazz, pop and classical across a programme that runs from joyful Bach and moody Satie to original songs written by Price and Koo, alongside jazz standards in vibrant new arrangements. It's a wide net to cast in one afternoon, and the mix of the two—the established classics and the trio's own writing—is where the set finds its shape.
To get a sense of the wider festival, it helps to look at what else has been on. The 2026 Newcastle Music Festival has paired jazz with classical repertoire throughout, with Mahler's Symphony No.1, Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings and Weber's Clarinet Quintet performed in the acoustics of Christ Church Cathedral and the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. All That Jazz brings that conversation into a single room, with the trio handling the jazz, pop and classical elements together.
