Turkish Lamp Workshop

Art Masterclass is running a Turkish Lamp Workshop at the Mercure Newcastle on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, with sessions at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm each day. It's a 2.5-hour class, so you've got a few times to choose from across the weekend.

Art Masterclass is a boutique art studio here in Newcastle, and they claim to be the first in Australia to teach traditional Turkish mosaic lamp making. The workshop introduces a 500-year-old craft: you'll learn how to assemble geometric patterns and lay the tesserae — those small, coloured glass pieces — to create your own traditional Turkish mosaic table lamp. You take the lamp home with you, complete with a metal base and a light bulb, so it's ready to plug in and light up as soon as you're back.

It's not just about the lamp, either. Every session includes an apple tea service served with Turkish delights, which fits the theme and gives you something to sip on while you work. The workshop is held in the Hunter Room at the Mercure Newcastle, 12 Steel St, Newcastle West, and the venue has disabled access.

Tickets range from A$89 to A$189, and each session runs for two and a half hours. With slots at 10 am, 2 pm and 6 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, you can pick the time that works best for your weekend.
