The Sweet (UK) perform their greatest hits on The Final Blitz Tour at the Civic Theatre.
The Sweet are playing the Civic Theatre on Saturday 21 November, as part of their The Final Blitz Tour. It's a greatest hits set, so the night is built around the songs they're best known for rather than a new album.
If the name rings a bell but the details are fuzzy, it's because they were a bit of a phenomenon here in the seventies. They racked up 13 Top 50 singles in Australia, two of which hit number one, and have sold 55 million records worldwide. 'Fox on the Run' was their first self-written and self-produced single, released in 1975; it went to number one in Australia and became the biggest-selling single of the year. 'The Ballroom Blitz' is the other one that usually comes to mind first.
Guitarist Andy Scott, representing the band's classic line-up, leads the current iteration. He's joined by vocalist Paul Manzi, keyboardist and guitarist Tom Cory, bassist Lee Small and drummer Adam Booth. They describe themselves as one of the most successful glam rock bands of all time, and the sound they're known for — chanted vocals, pounding drums and infectious guitar riffs — is exactly what they're bringing to the Civic. The set is a run through those hits, so it's the songs that made them a household name rather than a deep dive into the catalogue.
