Australian rock legends The Radiators perform at The Station Newcastle, with Hot Chocolate fronted by Kennie Simon headlining the day.
The Radiators are playing The Station on Sunday 18 October, and they're not the only ones on the bill. It's a full day of live music, with Hot Chocolate fronted by Kennie Simon, DV8, The Filthy Animals and The Viper Creek Band all sharing the stage. It's an outdoor concert, so you'll be outside for the whole thing, with food vans and fully licensed bars on site.
For those who don't know the history, The Radiators are Australian rock legends with over 45 years of classic hits behind them and more than 6,000 live shows in the bank. They've shared stages with AC/DC, INXS and Rose Tattoo, and they started out as a group called Big Swifty. They forged a sound that influenced thousands of teenagers across Australia; after their Sydney debut in September 1978, they played over 320 gigs in their first twelve months and signed to Warner Brothers in late 1979.
Their 1980 debut album, Feel the Heat, became a Platinum classic and made them the first Australian band to have advanced presales on a debut, with 6,000 copies sold before it even came out. The follow-up EP, You Have the Right to Remain Silent, also went Platinum, and at their peak they were breaking house records, playing six nights a week for 40 to 50 weeks a year. These days the band is fronted by Brian Nicholl, Geoff Turner, Mark Lucas and ex-Mental As Anything guitarist Martin Cilia, and they pay tribute to Greedy Smith with a Rads-inspired cover of 'Live it Up!'.
