Tenth Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever

The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is back at King Edward Park on Sunday 2 August, now in its tenth year. It's a local chapter of a global celebration started in 2013 by the British performance collective Shambush, and the whole thing centres on Kate Bush's 1978 hit 'Wuthering Heights'. She was just 19 when she released it, and the song retells the gothic romance of Catherine and Heathcliff from Emily Brontë's 1847 novel Wuthering Heights — which, if you've been following the news, was most recently adapted with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

The format is as quirky as it sounds: you're invited to turn up in a red dress and recreate the song's choreography. If you've seen the music video, you'll know the one — the swirling, dramatic dance that's become the event's trademark. The Newcastle edition is one of many around the world that join in on the same day, so you're part of a much larger, international following. It's as much about the dressing up and the dancing as it is about the song itself.

There's a good cause behind it too. Proceeds from the day go to Warlga Ngurra Women's and Children's Refuge, so it's a day that does some real good for the community while we're all out in the park in red dresses. If you're not a natural on the dance floor, don't let that put you off — the whole point is to just get involved and have a go at it with everyone else.

On the day, there are warm-ups starting at 11.30am, followed by the main performance at 12.30pm, so you've got plenty of time to find your feet before the main event. If the weather doesn't play ball, the rain date is Sunday 9 August. It's all happening at King Edward Park, so just bring yourself, your red dress, and a bit of Kate Bush energy.
