A showcase of comedians from the Sydney Comedy Festival at Newcastle's Civic Theatre, hosted by Matt Okine.
The Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase comes to the Civic Theatre on Saturday 5 September, bringing a slice of the Sydney Comedy Festival up to Newcastle for one night. It's a handpicked line-up of acclaimed comedians and rising stars, so if you've been following the festival from afar, this is a good way to catch several of the acts in one sitting without having to make the trip to Sydney.
Matt Okine hosts the evening, and the bill runs through Luke Heggie, Bec Charlwood, David Smiedt, Ian Mu, Kiyanosh Sahebi, Riv Narak and Kathryn Thomas. That's seven comedians on the bill, each taking a turn on stage rather than one long set, which keeps the energy moving across the night. It's a broad mix of names, from established faces to newer voices, so you'll get a fair cross-section of what's coming out of the festival this year.
The show runs for around two hours, so it's a full evening of comedy rather than a short stop-in. With that many acts on the bill, you'll see a few different styles in one go, and you can get a feel for who you'd want to see again later in the season. It's a one-off date here, so if you're keen, it's worth getting your tickets sorted early.
