Scottish soft-rock band Smokie perform their greatest hits live at the Civic Theatre, with haze and smoke effects.
Smokie are playing the Civic Theatre in Newcastle on Friday 5 March, part of their Greatest Hits Tour. It's a run that takes them through Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne, with regional centres like Newcastle fitting in between.
If you've only ever known them from the radio, here's the run-down: they're a Scottish soft-rock outfit that formed in 1964 and broke through in the seventies. Their sound is built on hooky songs and soft-rock harmonies, influenced by the classic American sound and led by a rasping, emotion-charged voice wrapped in rich melodic harmonies. That worldwide smash 'Living Next Door to Alice' has sold more than 10 million copies globally, and they scored seven Australian Top 20 hits during the seventies; their All The Best compilation sold 230,000 copies here. Across more than 20 albums, they've kept a following that supports a tour like this one, and they'll be playing the hits the crowd comes for, including 'Needles and Pins', 'I'll Meet You at Midnight' and 'Oh Carol'.
On stage, the line-up is Pete Lincoln on lead vocals and guitar, Mick McConnell on lead guitar and vocals, Martin Bullard on keyboards, Steve Pinnell on drums and Luke Bullard on bass. The set will be played with haze and smoke effects.
