Room on the Broom comes to the Civic Theatre Newcastle on Wednesday 22 July, a stage adaptation of the award-winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. It's aimed at children aged three and up, so it's one of those outings that works for the little ones and their parents together.
If you know the book, you know the story: a friendly witch and her cat on a broomstick, picking up a few animal friends along the way, and a rather hungry dragon who thinks they'd make a great snack. The stage version brings that to life with songs, laughter, puppetry and a fair bit of spooky fun. It's the same story you'll recognise from the pages, just played out in front of you.
There's a bit of pedigree behind this one, too. The production is brought to the stage by the same team that did The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child, so it's the same creative hands that handled Donaldson and Scheffler's other big hit. It's also coming off the back of sell-out seasons across Australia, and this is its return to the road.
