A joyous musical comedy following three friends on a road trip across the Australian Outback, presented by Chookas Entertainment.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert comes to the Civic Theatre on Thursday 17 December, brought to Newcastle by Chookas Entertainment. It's a musical comedy based on the Oscar-winning film, and if you've seen that, you've got a good handle on where this is heading.
The story follows three friends on a road trip across the Australian Outback, heading towards a show they've spent a long time preparing. It's a comedy at its heart, and the production describes itself as a celebration of unity, love, and being unapologetically yourself. The whole thing is presented by Chookas Entertainment, the same company that brought Kinky Boots to the stage, so there's a bit of a track record there for this kind of show.
There are a few practical things to keep in mind before you book. It's recommended for ages 13 and up, and it does contain adult themes. On the technical side, the show uses confetti cannons, smoke, and haze, so if you're sensitive to those, it's worth knowing beforehand. It's a big production with a fair bit going on, and the date puts it right in the run-up to Christmas, so it's one of those nights that works as a group outing.
