Inaugural film festival celebrating independent filmmaking with contemporary and experimental short films, digital narratives and filmmaker Q&As.
The Pavilion Film Festival makes its debut at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima in Lake Macquarie from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October, running across four days. It's an inaugural edition, so this is the first time the festival has come to the region, and it's built around independent filmmaking with a focus on bold, diverse storytelling from local, national and international filmmakers.
The screenings are spread across the Pavilion's spaces, with the immersive Cube taking centre stage for contemporary short films, digital narratives and experimental cinema. If you're into shorter formats and work that pushes the medium a bit, that's where the bulk of the programme sits. The mix of local and international voices means you'll see work from right here in the region alongside filmmakers from further afield, all under one roof.
It's not just about sitting in the dark, either. The programme opens up the process to the audience with filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions, masterclasses and community workshops, so you can hear from the people behind the camera about how their work came together. If you've ever wondered what goes into a short or an experimental piece, those sessions are where you'll get the inside story.
